SELF PORTRAIT/ROPE SKIRT
organic cotton rope, copper hoops , 2002
I need a safe space. After spending time with spiders I recognized their ability to create a home and spin a web wherever they find themselves. I want to be able to create and feel safety too.
The portrait takes the form of an abstract skirt and the material is a reference to cotton and humans including my ancestors both at one time considered to be “cash crops” per the United States of America.
