Amber Akosiwa Doe is a visual artist working in sculpture, installation, performance and video. She was born in Washington DC and raised in North Carolina and Philadelphia.

Doe’s work explores the connection between the natural environment and personal familial narratives. “Relating to environment is an essential component to my work. It started with “Self Portrait” - through my family history of slavery I identified with southern agriculture, and forced human labor.

Now living in Tucson as a maternal caretaker for her young niece a relationship to the environment and family has emerged working with fallen palms and natural matter from the desert. New work is exploring a new identity as a responsible mother and caregiver but not being recognized as a “true mother.” Different ways to be a woman.
